Oh how the young Morgan mare wanted to rip out her fathers throat right about now. In his infinite wisdom he had the bright idea that he could move up the herd ladder, and that plan involved his only daughter Aquilon. Yes her sire was going to gift her to one of the brothers to the main king of the island. She had everything that was to be sought in a mare young, healthy and now being three years old was now able to have foals. So Aquilon could now provide heirs to Vitto the one brother the King was going to give Aquilon to. In the exchange her sire would move on up and get a high ranking position within the main herd, everyone benefited in this except Aquilon of course. She decided that it was time to leave and spend what little time she had by herself. She hated her father since she was around three months old, he always told her that she was totally useless because she didn't have what a stallion had between the legs. There was more than one occasion where she lashed out and told him how she thought about his belittlement of her. Oh how she wanted to prove to him that she was as good as her half brothers and to tear into his worthless hide
Aquilon was just walking around aimlessly for the last few hours with no destination planned. The blood bay mare finally ended up at the Great Oak and decided that this was as good as anywhere to rest and relax. Aquilon looked around and didn't see anyone else around. If her sire did show up she was going to rear up and fling her front hooves towards him to tell him that she didn't like being some bargaining chip for his ambitions. She didn't like or even love this Vitto, as he was a very large draft and so dwarfed her in every way imaginable. She had it in her head that she was going to keep her Morgan blood untainted by mixing it with a draft like him. Aquilon finally settled down and started to graze to get her mind off of what happened the last couple of days to her. The longer she thought about all of this, the madder it made her.
After a few minutes she took a few steps forward to get to a new patch of grass to graze on. She just about had it with all the horses on this damn island. If it was up to her she would of crossed the land bridge and never look back ever again at this place. Aquilon though knew that her sire would hunt her down and drag her back kicking and screaming, as she was way to valuable for his plans to just let her slip away like that. No she needed to come up with a plan that would make her less appealing to Vitto and the king and so allow her to go on her way. The young Morgan wanted to be able to choose what she wanted for herself without some stallion breathing down her neck and telling her what she was going to do. Aquilon was deep in thought so was not paying any attention around her, so she was not keeping a look out on just who was around or was approaching her.

HYDE He had always been fond of the giant Oak tree. There was so much life around the tree, and it always cast him into such a peaceful mood. He always felt as though nothing could hurt him when he was under it's mighty branches. He treasured the moments he was hidden beneath the leaves, because he felt as though nothing matter. For, as soon as he would return to his home lands, and lay eyes on his perfect brother, he would feel the darkness seeping once more through his limbs. He didn't want to return to that feeling. He wanted to be good enough. He had wanted to be the one his father chose for the mare, to unite the bloodlines before his death. But, no. Vitto was the chosen one.
He gave himself a mighty shake to rid himself of the thoughts. This was his happy place. This was the place he could come to, to get away from the hateful feelings in his heart. So he would push the thoughts away, and focus more on the quiet sounds of nature. It wasn't anything special for him to look at, with everything in varying shades of gray, but he enjoyed coming and listening. It was an amazing calm for his murderous thoughts.
He was surprised at the sounds of another trudging through the snow. Very few horses moved from their homelands once the weather turned cold, so he hadn't expected anyone else to be around. He swung his mighty head around, and moved slowly through the snow to round the thick tree trunk. He was taken aback when he recognized the mare in front of him. Vitto's queen-to-be. He felt his heart thud in his chest. She was grazing from the grass protected from the light snow, and seemingly unaware of the world around her. He could feel the anger rolling off of her, and he knew how she must feel. He felt the same things toward his father, rest his dirty soul.
How she Hadn't heard him approaching was beyond him. As massive as he was compared to herself, he was surprised she didn't feel the ground bouncing. "Aquilon?" He didn't want to startle her, but he needed to make himself known.

Aquilon was ready to tear into her sire if he even thought about showing up now and telling her to get back to Vitto and to look all pretty for him. It was a few days ago that he made two of his mares take Aquilon to a pond and forced her to bathe and then have them groom her black long mane and tail. Her sire was making sure that she was totally in a presentable state to Vitto when she was handed off to the big Shire stallion. Aquilon wanted to just turn around and run to a far off place that didn't have any horses in it, she was tired of her sire, most stallions, and the whole political mess that was herd politics. She was more in deep thought than paying attention to what was going on around her for the most part. Oh how she wished she was born a colt then maybe her sire would of truly loved her instead of just thinking her as an asset to be pawned off like she was now.
She was just about ready to trot off a few feet away and then to paw with her front left hoof to expose some more brownish dead grass to feed on. Aquilon really was trying her hardest to limit all contact with any stallion as it was breeding season and so there was a very good chance that she also was in heat. The blood bay Morgan had no drive to become a mother this early in her life, no matter what Vitto had planned or wanted now. That is when she heard her name called from behind, she leaped a little and then turned around to see Hyde the brother to her future mate Vitto. What was he doing here was he out tracking Aquilon down so as to drag her back to be forced to stay with Vitto. Deep down she hoped not, as she wanted to remain independent for as long as possible. Aquilon though had to be cautious just in case he was here to do something from out of the blue. After all she had heard some rumors that Hyde also was seeking Aquilon for himself, oh how she hated how deep down stallions just lusted after young mares such as Aquilon. She dipped her head in a bow motion since Hyde after all was royalty and so was to be honored as such, that was one thing that her sire drilled in her young head both physically and telling her. She then spoke softly
" Hello my liege, I was not expecting a horse such as yourself to be out and about at this time."

HYDE As he suspected, she was lost in thought, and oblivious to his approach. She seemed troubled, and he wasn't fond of the emotions he felt rolling off of her. They made him antsy, and he didn't like the feeling at all. Maybe he could set her mind at ease. That's all he wanted, after all.
She was startled by his voice, and he couldn't resist the light laughter. He hadn't meant to frighten her, but the fact that she was so lost in thought she didn't hear him approach was laughable. She seemed suspicious as to why he was there, though, and that was further proven by what she said. He shook his head, denying her words. "Not liege. That's not me. Just Hyde," he didn't want her calling him by such royalties. He wasn't the one set to take over his father's lands, so he didn't need to be called by any titles. He was just the worthless younger twin.
He glanced behind him at the giant tree, then back to the mare. She must think such bad things about them. That they had little meetings all day and night about what they were going to do, or how they were going to further the lives of the 'lesser' horses. Were they not allowed such luxuries as traveling the lands? He snorted in slight frustration. "I come here all the time. They don't need me for their chats, so I come to visit the tree. I like it here." He should be used to the others treating him differently because he was half of the royal twins.
His gaze landed on the mare again, and he felt his heart flutter again. Oh, how he wished to be in Vitto's position. He had no idea how lucky he was to have this mare promised to him. He envied his brother more in that moment than he had in his entire life.

Aquilon was still studying the very large Shire stallion as she was sort of fearing just how much of a size difference there was between them. She took a single step forward so as to show Hyde that she was not fearing him, but deep down she really was. The blood bay mare then stopped when Hyde began to speak, and what he had to say was that he was not really royalty and so should just be called Hyde. That is when Aquilon spoke.
" My sire told me that you are to be addressed as such and so he punished me by smacking me between my ears with his chin if I didn't bow and say my prince, liege, highness. So if you say to address you as Hyde then so be it, Hyde."
Yes her sire was an egotistical asshole when it came to telling Aquilon on how she should act in the presence of either prince. At least it was Hyde that was here and not Vitto as she was sure he would already be trying to corral the young Morgan and so bring her back to his lands to add to his already large harem of mares. Oh how her sire had big plans and it always centered around Aquilon in order to get them accomplished. Her thoughts was again interrupted when Hyde spoke again. It seemed that he came here all the time and that he liked the big old oak tree. Aquilon then answered the grey frost painted stallion.
" I only came here to get some food and get some much needed alone time as in a few days I'll probably never be able to get it ever again. I'm sure your brother is going to keep very close tabs on me and so I'll not be able to slip away without him knowing about it. Sometimes I wished I was a stallion and so not have to put up with them being a mare. You might think being a mare is easy, I beg to differ."
She then stamped her front right hoof in annoyance of even thinking about what has happen to her. She was not a fellow horse in any stags eyes. Oh no she was just a prize a prize that would give Vitto the ability to establish his bloodlines further than ever before. And she also was giving her sire the upward mobility that otherwise was outside his reach. And so she just stood there ears towards Hyde so as to catch what ever words he might say next.

HYDE Observant as he was, he noticed the step towards him she took, like she was trying to prove - to herself, or to him, he didn't know - that she wasn't bothered by being here with him. He was pleased that she followed his instructions on addressing him as his name only, but aggravated by how she spoke of her father. Though he may not agree with the way things were arranged, she had to see that it benefited her as well. She would never want for anything being the Queen to his brother. But she seemed to only see the downside to the arraignment. Maybe he would feel different if he were in her place, if the roles were reversed. "Your father isn't around, and he is not me. I do not want you to call me by such silly titles."
Her thoughts seemed to be interrupted by his speaking. Though he felt rude by doing such a thing, he was enjoying speaking to her. Up until now, he had merely admired her from afar, and seethed with jealously for his brother. Vitto, the perfect brother, got everything he wished and more. He listened with rapt attention as she spoke again. She talked of how she dreaded bring with Vitto, and how her independence would be lacking in the future. His brother might be a stuck-up royal that was too big for his britches, but he was also unconcerned with what his mares were up to. She didn't seem to understand just how easy her life was about to get. He wasn't going to bring that up, though. Now was his chance.
"You could always come with me. We could blow this place." There it was. He laid it all on the table, and opened himself up for her judgment. This was the moment of truth, and though he was excited to hear her answer, he also feared that she would turn him down.

The young blood bay Morgan was sure that this whole meeting was by chance only, and that Hyde had not stalked and then tracked her down around here. That was just creepy the longer Aquilon thought about it, she then swiveled her ears towards Hyde's direction when he began speaking again. What the large Shire said was that her father was not around and so she shouldn't call him by such silly title's that her sire told her to call them, at least to Hyde. Aquilon still only seen herself as some pawn to be given or used to benefit everyone else except her in this deal. She did hope that Hyde could become a very close friend, someone she could either ask about Vitto or to tell her information that she wouldn't find out otherwise. Aquilon was slowly being overwhelmed with everything that has happen to her since the early fall when her sire set all of this swapping of her in motion.
The very next thing he had to say totally caught her off guard. What Hyde said is that maybe they both should flee this place. Slowly Aquilon started to daydream on how this would all go down. She could only see herself wandering from place to place, never having enough time to settle down, always looking over her back and wondering if those hoof beats was from a patrol that Vitto sent out to retrieve her, or just from some other poor soul. No she couldn't go back on her word, or to be basically a vagabond wandering from place to place. Also her sire would be after her and not give up until she was back under Vitto's possession. Finally the young Mare shook her head no and in a slight apologetic voice spoke to the Shire in front of her.
" I'm sorry Hyde I just can't do that as I promised that I would go with Vitto. If this would of happen before being handed off to Vitto I might of taken this Hyde. But I can not just wander from place to place constantly looking over my back thinking if those hoof beats I hear are Vitto coming for me or they belong to some other horse. Then my sire would never stop until he either died or got me and drag me back to Vitto. But I do hope that we will become close friends, Hyde. I'm....I'm just sorry."
She then turned her head away from him before breaking down completely. She didn't want him to see just how much all of this had worn her down. Aquilon though was now ready to go seek out Vitto and so start her new life with him. She now hoped that Hyde understood how she felt about all of what he had said to her.

HYDE He waited patiently as she thought about his words. Oh, how he wanted her to accept his offer. They could set off that night, if she wanted. She wouldn't have to worry about seeing his brother ever again. He was worried about the time she was taking, though. It felt like years had passed from the time he suggested them leaving to her answer. And then she was shaking her dome 'no'.
At first, he felt nothing but disappointment. He had envisioned his life with her, and he was disappointed by her lack of the same desire. She didn't trust him to protect her, to keep her safe from his brother and her father. He was shamed beyond belief that she didn't see him worthy of taking care of her. He couldn't understand why what she was thinking. He was more than a fair match for his brother, and her father was nothing compared to him. He could stomp him like a snake. But she had made up her mind, and he would let it be.
But she kept talking, and he kept listening. She wanted to be friends. He almost laughed in her face. He had offered her his heart on a silver platter, and she had rejected him because she feared Vitto and her father more than the faith she had in him. He couldn't believe it. The blood flowing through his veins turned icy, and for the first time in his life, he saw a color other than gray. Everything he saw was red. His nares flared with anger, and he knew he was going to do something beyond himself if he didn't leave now. Almost against his power, he felt his auds flatten against his skull. How dare she suggest such a thing after stomping his heart into the ground. Well, one thing was for sure. He would never make the same mistake again.
He felt his mouth turning to a snarl, and he back away from her. He had taken rejection in the past no problem. It was part of life. But never before had he offered so much to someone, just to have it thrown in his face for an offer of mere friendship. He didn't need friends. And, he decided, he didn't need her.
The change in him was almost instantaneous. He could almost feel his beating heart give into the demons that gripped his dreams at night, and scratched his back through the days. She was in danger now, that was for sure. But he still had enough mind to him to turn away, and leave the giant oak and the mare that he had wanted to badly to love and protect, and leave the area.
His mighty hooves left craters in the snow, and it clung to the long feathers. His trail would be easy to follow, but it would be bad for her to chase after him to try to make things right, or whatever everyone did when someone walked away. He didn't want her anywhere near him. And at that moment, he never wanted to see her - or his perfect, achieving, obnoxious slightly older brother - again.
